The standard is expressed in the format EN 343 Class X / Class Y (e.g. 4/4) and refers to two key performance parameters: Class X – resistance to water penetration (waterproofness), Class Y – water vapor permeability (breathability). Each parameter is rated on a scale from 1 to 4, where a higher class indicates better protective performance. EN ISO 20471 Class 3 is a European standard specifying the requirements for high-visibility warning clothing providing the highest level of visibility. Its purpose is to maximize wearer safety by enhancing visibility during daylight, in low-light conditions, and in adverse weather environments. Garments certified according to EN ISO 20471 Class 3 contain the largest amount of fluorescent material and reflective tape required by the standard, ensuring the highest level of visibility in high-risk working environments. Class 3 garments are intended for workers operating near high-speed traffic, on highways, airports, construction sites, and in other situations where maximum visibility is essential. Compared to Class 1 and Class 2, Class 3 provides the highest level of protection defined by the EN ISO 20471 standard.
